The New Free Hit Rule 2009/10 The following guidance for umpires may change after the new free hit rule is used in international games. The changes to the free hit rule are new to everyone. Umpires must be firm and direct when making decisions associated with this rule. If a free hit violation occurs, penalize it accordingly. Do not allow a free hit to be retaken because, "This is new." Any violation by the attacking team such as dragging the ball, the ball not moving 1 meter on a pass to a teammate, or attacking teammates within 5 meters inside the attacking 23 meter area should be penalized, not retaken...
